Best Restaurants Near the Ocean Beach Pier: A Local Homeowner's Guide

One of the best parts about living in Ocean Beach isn't just being close to the ocean.

It's deciding where to eat after you've spent the afternoon at the beach.

Whether we've been surfing, walking Sunset Cliffs, taking the kids to Dog Beach, or just meeting friends for dinner, there are a handful of places we come back to over and over again.

This isn't meant to be a list of every restaurant in Ocean Beach.

It's simply where I find myself recommending friends, family, and clients when they ask, "Where should we eat?"

Pizza Port

A family favorite after the beach.

If you have kids, Pizza Port is hard to beat.

The pizza is consistently good, the beer selection is one of the best in the neighborhood, and the atmosphere is relaxed enough that nobody minds if your kids are still sandy from the beach.

It's the kind of place where families can actually relax instead of worrying about whether their kids are being too loud.

If friends visit from out of town, this is often one of the first places we take them.

City Tacos

My favorite casual taco stop.

City Tacos

City Tacos has become one of our regular stops.

The menu is creative without being overcomplicated, and it's one of those places where everyone in the family can usually find something they like.

It's another great option after a beach day because it's quick, casual, and easy.

Kids are welcome--there are tons of games for them to play like foosball or giant jenga--and nobody is worried if everyone shows up wearing flip-flops. They also have a dog run for the pups.

The Joint

When we're craving sushi.

If someone asks me where to get sushi in Ocean Beach, The Joint is usually my answer.

Fresh fish, creative rolls, great cocktails, and consistently friendly service have made it a neighborhood favorite for years.

It's equally good for date night or dinner with friends.

Blue Water Seafood

My favorite seafood recommendation.

When visitors want seafood, Blue Water is usually where I send them.

Fresh local seafood is the focus here, whether you're ordering grilled fish, fish tacos, chowder, or one of the daily specials.

It's casual enough to stop by after the beach but consistently delivers some of the best seafood in the neighborhood.

3rd Corner

The best wine spot in Ocean Beach.

3rd Corner Ocean Beach

If I'm meeting friends for a glass of wine, this is probably where we're going.

3rd Corner has one of the best wine selections in the area, but it's also an excellent restaurant in its own right.

The atmosphere feels a little quieter than many places in Ocean Beach, making it a great choice for date nights or catching up with friends.

OB Noodle House

An Ocean Beach institution.

OB Noodle House has built a loyal following over the years, and for good reason.

The food is consistently good, but it's probably just as well known as the birthplace of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey, which started right here in Ocean Beach before becoming a national brand.

Even if whiskey isn't your thing, the garlic wings have become legendary for a reason.

La Doña

Modern Mexican done right.

La Dona's Ocean Beach

La Doña has quickly become one of my favorite additions to Ocean Beach.

The food feels fresh and thoughtfully prepared while still staying true to traditional Mexican flavors.

Whether you're stopping in for brunch, tacos, or margaritas with friends, it's become one of those restaurants that consistently delivers.

Rosemarie's Burgers & Brews

My favorite burger in Ocean Beach.

Rosemaries Burgers Ocean Beach

This might be my most controversial opinion...

If I'm choosing where to get a burger in Ocean Beach, I'm usually heading to Rosemarie's.

The burgers are excellent, the beer list is solid, and it's become one of my personal favorites.

Everyone has their own burger ranking, but this is mine.

Hodad's

The icon.

Hodad's Ocean Beach

You really can't write an Ocean Beach restaurant guide without mentioning Hodad's.

It's one of the most famous burger restaurants in San Diego, and visitors from around the world make the trip here.

Personally? It's probably not my favorite burger in Ocean Beach anymore.

But that's also part of what makes OB fun—locals all have their own opinions.

Whether you agree or disagree, it's absolutely worth experiencing at least once.

Final Thoughts

One of the reasons I love living in Ocean Beach is that the restaurants reflect the neighborhood itself.

They're mostly locally owned. They're unpretentious. You can show up in sandals after a day at the beach and feel perfectly at home.

More importantly, these are places where neighbors run into each other, kids grow up celebrating birthdays, and newcomers quickly start feeling like locals.

Good restaurants don't make a neighborhood.

But they do help create the kind of community people don't want to leave.
